Norton has released its new NRV 588 Race version after the first version running over 10 years ago. This race bike will be produced summer of 2009. It will be 25 bikes only and will all be hand built in Norton new factory at Donington Park.
2009 Norton NRV 588 Race is powered by the engine that prototyped in 2006 by Brian Crighton from the racer he designed for the 1995 season. The engine details include 588cc twin-rotor wankel type, fuel injected, fully variable intake tract to peak maximum torque between 8000-11,000rpm, electric water pump, ducted fan air cooling for rotors, and fly-by-wire throttle. The engine was projected to produce about 170 BHP @ 11,500 RPM and 80Ibs ft, at variable rpm.
NRV 588 Race′s engine sits on the twin spar aluminium chassis. The chassis is equipped with Ohlins suspensions, front’s upside-down fork and rear’s long-stroke single-sided direct connection unit. Braking features AP Discs with radial mounted front callipers and rear 2 piston brake callipers. The 130kg (dry) of 2009 Norton NRV 588 Race rolls on Dymag 16.5in wheels wrapped with Dunlop.
