2009 Suzuki GSX-R1000 released (Australia)

Suzuki GSX-R1000 (2009) has been released by Suzuki of Australia. The new ‘Gixxer’ comes with a new 999cc four-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine. It is lighter and shorter than the previous generation and featuring the Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) fuel-injection system. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission featuring new lay out with ratios carefully selected for optimum racetrack performance. To help with this, the 2009 GSX-R1000 is fitted with a revised back-torque-limiting clutch for improved lever feel and feedback. This sportbike is also equipped with two large-volume MotoGP-inspired titanium mufflers and a larger trapezoidal radiator for reduced drag. There are three different engine maps to suit conditions and preferred style from Suzuki’s Drive Model Select (S-DMS). And completely all, this engine is also lower emissions than the previous.

The 2009 Suzuki GSX-R1000 is priced at $18,990 RRP (plus on-road costs). Consumers can choose three colors available including Blue/White, White/Silver, and Black/Mat Black.

The new smaller engine is wrapped with a more compact chassis. The chassis is a new twin-spar cradle frame. It comes with 100mm-shorter wheelbase and a 33mm-longer swingarm for improved handling and acceleration. It is also equipped with better bike component such as suspensions. The new Big Piston Frontfork (BPF) suspension was developed in cooperation between Suzuki and Showa. It features uses a single 39.6mm upper piston riding against the inside wall of the inner fork tube, with fork springs relocated to the bottom of each fork leg for improved weight and greater feedback. The Showa rear shock absorber features adjustable rebound damping, spring preload, and high and low-speed compression damping. The suspensions will be also supported by an electronically-controlled automatic steering damper.
