Kingston University unveils zero-emission racer ahead TTXGP

Kingston University will be a contender at the world’s first zero-emissions Grand Prix this summer with a battery-powered bike from its final-year engineering students. The bike has been officially unveiled to motorcycling enthusiasts, guests, staff and students at Kingston University on Wednesday 22 April.

Kingston University team will compete with the other contenders from America, India, Italy, Germany and Austria. There will be 24 eco-bike plus Kingston University’s bike at the 2009 Isle of Man TTXGP that will take place on June 12, 2009.

Supervised by motorsport and motorcycle engineering Paul Brandon, the engineering students of Kingston University started their work in last October. Powered by a electric motor which is served by a 72-volt battery, their creation will run on avarage 70 mph and will reach a top speed of 102mph. TT veteran Maria Costello will be rider of Kingston’s machine.
