"The Essential Michael Jackson" compilation sold nearly 106,000 copies. The collection follows Jackson's start from the Jackson 5 to his last album, 2001's "Invincible."
Jackson's "Number Ones" compilation sold 104,000 copies. It features all his #1 Billboard hits from "Off the Wall" to "Invincible," plus an unreleased song.
Six other Jackson albums were among the Top 50 selling albums this week. "Off the Wall" moved 34,000 copies, while "Bad" and Jackson 5's "Ultimate Collection" moved 19,000 and 18,000 copies respectively.
His 1991 album "Dangerous" sold 14,000 copies this week, while Jackson's solo "Ultimate Collection," which featured rare never-before-released songs and demos, sold 14,000 as well.
Jackson's 1995 "HIStory: Greatest Hits, Vol. 1," which featured one disc of hits and a second of new material including his duet with sister Janet on "Scream," sold 12,000 copies this week.
The Billboard 200 Albums chart won't reflect Jackson's takeover of album sales this week, however. His albums won't be eligible to chart again. So this week's Billboard #1 album, Black Eyed Peas' "E.N.D." is actually the 4th biggest selling album in the country. However, the pop catalog albums chart will likely have Jackson entries for nearly the entire Top 10.
