Dell refutes Microsoft claims on returned Linux netbooks

Microsoft has claimed return rates on Linux netbooks are “four or five time higher” than Windows netbooks. Well apparently Todd Finch, Dell Senior Products Manager refutes Microsoft’s claims.

Finch says “we don’t see a significant difference between the return rate for Windows versus the rate for Linux.” However Finhc dos go on to say that people that return Linux netbooks often purchase the cheapest option and expect to find the familiar Windows UI upon startup, when they don’t they return the netbook.

At t OpenSource World attendees who believe in the Field of Dreams approach had their belief crushed when the topic of how to spur greater interest in Linux was tackled, and it is now clear that demand has to come first.
